Satellite systems – five tiny speakers and a subwoofer – have long been the fast food of the home theater market. They’re cheap and easy but not very satisfying. Now several high-end stereo makers are offering mini 5.1-surround sound kits that claim to deliver superior audio. Do they succeed? Somewhat. These rigs still don’t have the acoustic range of full-size speakers, but they produce crisper, richer sound than mass-market models. And they look cooler, too.
